Writing box

Description
Mahogany veneered wooden writing box with brass rectangles set in corner sections, brass shield on lid and carved brass corners on lid; brass lock with shield shaped surround. Hinged section inside opens to provide a writing surface covered with black(?) leatherette(?) cloth decorated with a gold scroll pattern round the edge. Square ink bottle with round brass lid; stick of red sealing wax, broken; nine assorted nibs for pen holder inscribed variously as "Joseph Gillott's", "Joseph Gillott's warranted", "Joseph Gillott's Birmingham", OT HINKS WELLS & Co SCHOOL PEN", "PERRY & Co No28 FINE LONDON", "JOSEPH GILLOTT No 29 BIRMINGHAM", "WILLIAM MITCHELLE Selected J", "WARRANTED", "VALE'S 1st CLASS". Seven of them appear to be unused. Bottom of the case is covered with green hessian.
